The urban space is an arena for thousands of mundane actions: people walking to work, taking trains home, getting caught in the rain. Often overlooked are the emotional and psychological impacts these have on the pedestrian, the observer, the nameless city dweller. Photographer Clarissa Bonet tries to convey these impacts in her City Scape project. Through reconstructed Chicago street scenes, she renders photos into a communiqué of feelings, including isolation, invisibility and embarrassment, recreating personal experiences she once witnessed or felt in public. “I really tried to capitalize on tools and techniques such as light, shadow, color and atmosphere - things you can tangibly see - to photograph something that’s intangible like emotion or a feeling of a specific place,” she said.
